Tips For Fresh Flower Arrangements

You do not need to be an experienced florist to make excellent flower arrangements. However, there is something that you do need. I'm talking about great tips for arrangements of flowers. With the right tricks and hints, you will turn heads with your arrangements. This article will point out the most important factors that will help you create something you can be proud of. First, you need to know the kind of flowers you are using. For example, are you using fresh flowers, dried or artificial ones? For a good outcome, you have to treat three categories of flowers differently. Let us focus on fresh flowers and see how you can make the best arrangement possible.

For fresh flowers, green-water retaining foam will work well. Keep this in mind. It is also good to mention that brown stiffer foam is for the dried and artificial flowers. The other vital thing to consider is the size of arrangement. This will be determined by the size of container as well as the size of the space you are planning to use. Many flower arrangements go wrong when sizes are not proportional. When you are planning to make arrangements for your dining table, make sure you keep it reasonably low. There is nothing that turns people off more than having to peep through the arrangements to have a conversation. Again, do some measurements that will work well.

Dried Flower Arrangements

Another secret when it comes to flower arrangements is to use flowers in their different developmental stages. This is to say that you should utilize buds, mid-blooms as well as full blooms. Always keep the tall flowers at the centre to provide the much needed balance and beauty. The buds should be securely arranged at the sides. It is the varieties of colours, textures and shapes that make for great arrangements with regard to flowers and foliage. For awesome designs, play with all these factors and make sure to add the spice of variety. It is vital for you to know what to do with flowers that are open.

You should never arrange them facing forward. Examples of open flowers include roses, Gerbera, Daffodils and others. Make sure that they face different angles to your liking. When you are working with lilies for flower arrangements, it is always important to remove the stamens. This is because the pollen stains the flower. Also, the pollen can stain clothing and even furnishings. Removing the stamen will prolong the life of the flower and this is definitely a good thing. Colour also plays a huge role in creating a beautiful arrangement. The best thing is to have a colour balance. Do not concentrate one colour on one side; spread out colours to make the arrangement flow naturally.

Some people may think that having tight flower arrangements will facilitate stability. However, the best thing is to leave some generous room between the flowers. Just like in nature, the greatest displays will be calming and tight is definitely not calming. Make sure you hide foam and the way to do this is to employ good-looking pebbles and marbles. You can also use shells and layer them up attractively. Let the container sit on a waterproof surface to prevent any water disaster. There are so many other tips to talk about but with the above few, you will get your head out of the lay waters and begin to see elegance taking form in your arrangements.

How to Use Fragrant Dried Flower Wreaths and Arrangements at Home

The smell of our home has an effect on how we feel. A citrus smell brings life and zest to your surroundings and energizes. Dried lavender lends a relaxing mood to your environment, while dried roses can enhance a romantic atmosphere. Depending upon the type of mood you'd like to create, dried flowers can truly augment your demeanor. With dried flower arrangements and wreaths, you can bring the joy of nature into your own home.

dried flower arrangements

Fragrances serve many functions in our lives. They can bring back a wonderful memory; for example, the smell of a barbeque might trigger childhood memories of bonfires and cookouts on the beach. Smells can warn us of danger; such as when food is burning. But scents can also make our moods better by energizing us, relaxing us, or helping to enhance our focus. That's why bringing an arrangement or wreath into our environment can make a real difference in our moods.

Dried Flower Arrangements

Dried flowers come in all types of colors, shapes, and sizes. Dried lavender, for example, can be purchased on the stalk or in dried bud form after they've been removed from the stalk. You can place these buds in a bowl or sachet pouch and then combine them with dried rose petals and dried fruit slices to make a sensory-appealing sachet. The bathroom is an especially popular place to put a small dish of sachet, but you could put one anywhere and reap the benefits. Sachet pouches are especially wonderful in dresser drawers or hanging up in your closet to freshen up clothing.

You can also add dried herbs to your sachets and wreaths. Lavender, chamomile, dried mandarin slices, and dried mint are an especially-appealing combination. Buy the long, dried stalks for wreaths and you can hot glue the orange/fruit slices to craft sticks and then attach them to your wreath frame. Since mint doesn't come in stalks, use another fragrant flower or herb as a substitute. You can find a wide variety at your local craft store or online.

You can also use dried plants in vases as arrangements instead of fresh flowers. You don't have to try and find a fragrant flower for each one in the bunch; mix it up and use some dried flowers for their beauty and others for their fragrance. Again, you can use craft sticks or skewers and some hot glue to attach dried fruit slices and other plant parts (for example, pine cones and mini-gourds). For smaller vases, stick with smaller, more dense bunches of flowers. Try and use colors that are either in the same hue (for example, reds, oranges, and yellows) or choose a neutral color scheme and add dramatic pops of color (for example, white and yellow flowers with accents of bright blue or orange).

You can make your house a home with the simply elegant addition of dried flower or dried lavender arrangements and wreaths. Nothing is more welcoming than a freshly-smelling home that helps you relax after a long day or energizes you as you get ready to face the world.

Dried Flower Arrangements and Decorations

Dried flowers can be used as a typical and unique style of decoration. One can get the dried flowers from a florist or can dry the flowers oneself. There are many flowers which dry quickly and easily. Few of them are violets, roses, .daisies, zenias etc. The basic rule for drying is that the moisture in the flower should be removed without rotting it. There are various methods of drying which are as follows:

dried flower arrangements

Hanging: in this method one needs to hang flowers in a well ventilated, dark spot, for about a week, by tying the flowers in a bundle and hanging them upside down.

Dried Flower Arrangements

Sand Drying: in this method one needs to fill the flower with sand by placing it in a box of sand, stem upside down for a week. The most important thing to be remembered is that the sand should not have any moisture. The advantage of this method is you can retain the cup shape of the flower.

Air tight containers: this method is very useful for bulky headed flowers. Just place the flowers in the container, close it and keep it for a week to ten days.

A desiccant: a substance such as calcium oxide or silica gel, which has a high affinity for water and is used as a drying agent can also be used to dry flowers.

There are various things that can be done to decorate with the help of dried flowers:-

You can decorate a photograph, invitation, child's artwork or selected piece of literature in a shadow box, a wedding invitation, highlight a poem, photos or pieces of literature.

A wreath fashioned from dried flowers is an attractive and durable decoration for a front door or mantel. It's a simple project too, requiring only a frame, dried flowers, and a hot glue gun. To begin making a wreath, attach a picture frame hanger to the reverse of your stretcher frames (preferably use, two 8-inch and two 9-inch frames for the purpose). Paint the frames, if you want to. Prepare the flowers by removing their stems. Starting from one corner and working your way around, lay down a strip of glue. Place the flowers on the hot glue and push down carefully. Continue placing flowers along the top side and finish by gluing flowers along the edge.

Apart from this there are some general rules which should be used for Dried Flower decoration which are as follows:

If flowers feel soft like a sponge, do not use them for drying. This indicates that they are old or have been frozen. Flowers used for drying should be firm. Make a stem for the dried flowers with a wire and secure flowers with floral tape. Once all the flowers have been mounted on stems, start making arrangements. Check garage sales, etc. for unique vases and bowls in which to display the arrangements. Find inspiration for arrangements by touring flower gardens or by looking through gardening magazines.

Experiment, create and never be afraid. The end results can give your home the warmth of your gardens.

How-to Essay - Arranging the Perfect Flower Display For Every Occasion Plus More

A flower arrangement that fits its surroundings is one of the basic goals of flower arranging. Flower arrangements should be designed based on their purpose. With funereal flower arrangements, pick flowers with muted colors but beautiful and simple appearance, such as tulips and daisies. Silk grasses, unusual and bright flowers, and topiary designs are great if the arrangement is meant to be a housewarming gift or a "get better soon" arrangement. For a more romantic or classy arrangement, use roses. For the perfect flower arrangement, always remember who the flower arrangement is for. Keep in mind their likes and dislikes and apply them as you make choices on the colors, flower types, and arrangement style you will use. If it doesn't look right the first time, just try again. It is especially easy if you are using silk flowers, since you can mix and match all you want without damaging the flowers.

How to Keep Your Plant Properly Watered

Dried Flower Arrangements

Supplying your plants with the right amount of ware is not hard to do, but it helps to know a few basic rules. One of the most common mistakes that you can make with the home plant is giving it too much water. Excessive water drains nutrients your plant needs from the soil. Also, if your plant is continually stuck in water, its roots will gradually become rotted. One way to ensure your plant gets the proper amount of water is to use a watering bulb or other controlled watering devise. They are made to slowly release water into the soil in proper quantities.

Using Silk Tulips as Décor

Silk tulips are definitely in the top five in terms of popularity for silk flowers. Tulips' shape and petals make them very distinguishable. Tulips are a great flower to use for almost any decorative need. For one, tulips are more of a generic flower that can be used regardless of the season, unlike some of their counterparts. In contrast, roses belong to the world of romance and appreciation, and should not necessarily be used for other decorative purposes (such as a "just because" bouquet). Tulips are also great when there is not a lot of space available, as opposed to many silk flower arrangements, plants, or trees, which may require a lot of space to look good. Another decorative benefit to tulips is that they look gorgeous on their own, but they also compliment flower arrangements with multiple types of flowers.

How to Preserve Flowers from Special Occasions

Drying flowers after special occasions like weddings, graduations, or other fun events is a great way to preserve memories. It usually doesn't take long for flowers to begin wilting, especially if the ceremony they were used for called for them to be out of water-so don't delay when it is time to dry them. If you are looking for an easy way to preserve your own flowers, there are two methods you can use. One way is to attach a string around your flowers and hang them upside down until they have dried completely. However, it is important to keep a few things in mind: moisture and light are enemies to a perfectly dry flower, so hang your flowers in a cool, dry, dark place. Also, dried flowers are very fragile, so to prevent damage we recommend placing them in a case or shadowbox. Another great technique for preserving a flower is to press it-but keep in mind that the end product will be flat. This method works best with very small, thin flowers or the individual flower petals of larger, shapelier flowers.

Creating Dried Flower Floral Arrangements

Gather round all you ladies & yes, gents, too. The fun & enjoyment of working with dried flowers awaits you. 1st. off we will begin by creating gorgeous floral arrangements using natural products to bring vibrant color to home accessories. Imagine this if you will, the combination of colored exotics like the mango Ting Ting flowers mixed with the longer twisted Ting Ting in mango, keeping the twisted Ting as the highest point in the arrangement. Use Brown, Bordeaux or Mango Flax grass as filler. Add several (5) 24” long stem natural Pro Tea flowers. Place these in a fairly tall marble looking vase, or a terra cotta pot. Bring one of the Pro Tea flowers & a few of the Ting Ting’s down in front of the vase or pot. Play with the arrangement till you get just the look you want & for a job well done.

dried flower arrangements

After all that work we need to relax. To help bring a restful, refreshing feel to our habitat, bring on the domestically grown English lavender mixed with the white Larkspur & the preserved dark green Lasiantha, arranged in a metal Americana pitcher, for an aromatic potpourri treat. Sit near an open window or air vent.

Dried Flower Arrangements

While we’re on this smell good potpourri kick, gather-up the flavorful cinnamon sticks & lavender buds. We can crush them up or make a bundle of the sticks, tied with a ribbon on a bed of lavender buds in a wicker basket, adding a few lavender blooms for a complete smell good temptation. If lavender is not your choice, select several stems of polished preserved Eucalyptus in array of vibrant color of blue, camel, green, olive, orange, purple or red. Tie with ribbon & place on a shelf or windowsill.

Since many of us love to craft, I have an idea. Take several strands of the natural raffia (length of choice); make a knot at the top end. Attach at random by gluing or tying, natural dried fruits such as apple slices, grapefruit slices, & orange slices, including cinnamon sticks tied on with small raffia bows at each one of the fruit slices. Brew –up a cup of tea or apple cider, pop-in a cinnamon stick, stir gently, wake –up the taste buds, as well as the sinuses. Another simpler option would be to gather-up the yummy fruit slices, including the whole split orange, place in a crystal bowl. Stir often & enjoy.

With all these aromatic natural products available for wholesale purchases at http://www.schustersoftexas.com there is no excuse for not having good smelling homes.

With the use of the honeysuckle garland shaped into an arched bundle as the base, attach preserved foliage of burgundy Peppermint & burgundy Cedar with raffia ties. Add a few natural sun Palms @ random along with burgundy parchment Hydrangeas, pinching off a few blooms to place at strategic points on the sun Palms. Now you have a vibrant

colored swag, HANG ANYWHERE, HANG EVERYWHERE.

Life Imitates Art

Dried Flower Arrangements

One neat trick to making a dramatic statement in a room is to purchase a painting (or use and existing one) and re-create the scene in the picture. For example, a silver bowl filled with pears in a painting can inspire you to find a silver dish at a rummage sale or thrift store and then buy some faux pears at the craft store when they are on sale. You can probably make something like this for under whereas, if you had purchased it pre-arranged, it could cost 0 or more at an upscale design accessory or craft store.

You can do the same scene mimicking with flower arrangements. Find (or use an existing) picture or painting to springboard the type of dried flowers and colors you'll be using in your project. Even if you don't have a picture of a flower arrangement, use any existing framed work of art and locate 3 or 4 main colors and begin there. For example, a café scene in a frame could inspire you to pick up the red in the awning, the orange in the outside bistro tables, and the brown in the jars of coffee beans inside the shop window. You can really play around with your arrangements and make the picture come to life with your arrangements! Use the tallest stalks in the center for height and then add shorter ones around the outer perimeter. If you're using silk plants, gently bend them so they appear more like the real thing.

Ah, the Aroma of Fragrant Dried Flowers

Fragrance is one of the great advantages to using dried plants and flowers. Buy dried flowers in bulk for the best deals, for example, buy bunches instead of stalks, and you'll save more money. Dried lavender, chamomile, China tea, eucalyptus, or roses can be bought by the bunch and have fragrances that can't be beat! You can also buy just the dried buds of the flowers and make dishes filled with combination's of fragrant flowers, pine cones, dried wood shavings, or tiny gourds, and sprinkle them with potpourri spray or essential oils so they can bring a pleasant aroma to any room they are in.

Budgets are Welcome

If you're working on an especially tight budget, online coupons and specials can be found easily along with weekly specials in the paper or from your mailbox. You don't have to look very hard to find special discounts and deals these days! You can definitely make numerous arrangements for your home with very little investment. Any of these great ideas also make super gifts to give for any occasion. Try making one for your mom, sister, or a friend and see how touched they are when they see the beautiful arrangement you've created just for them!

How to Prepare Dried Hydrangeas For Floral Arrangements

Hydrangeas look divine in bouquets, in floral arrangements-and they even look celestial in pictures! Most of all, hydrangeas preserve their exquisiteness as dried flowers. As dried flowers, the beautiful hydrangea blooms exist in a variety of colors and are superb add-ons to wreaths and dried floral arrangements. Furthermore, there is no fuss in drying them and they last for a few or more years. Here are a few things you should know about preparing dried hydrangeas: The most hassle-free hydrangea species to work with is the Pegee. The Pegee is a widespread hydrangea species that boasts of bigger branches. This type of hydrangea blooms in four stages of color: white, green, pink and brown. This would mean a diverse variety of colors for your dried flowers arrangement. When picking Pegee hydrangeas, remember to select those which have a burgundy tone formation on the tips and whose flowers on the branch are firm when touched. It's also a good idea toopt forhydrangea blooms which have a distinct conical shape because these have a better probability of holding shape when dried. Avoid working many times with freshly dried blooms because this could make them 'explode'-leaving you with petals to work with. If, however, you decide to use hydrangea dried flowers in a wreath, know that wreaths will look better when the blooms are new and flexible. Spraying the blooms with some spray adhesive can help keep the blooms together prior to wreath making. Air drying is a popular method of preparing dried flowers. Hydrangeas, however, need not be hung upside down to dry-unless the stems are thin and weak. Simply exposing the flowers to a warm, dry air in a dark space cuts the deal. This is called the hang and dry method. The darkness is essential in preserving the color of the flower. If you opt to hang around for the blooms to reach their prime for the harvest, you can put the blooms in a vase (pretty much like displaying fresh hydrangeas in your home). Do away with the leaves. For every two stalks of hydrangeas, add two tablespoons of water in the bottom of the vase. Finally, situate the vase out of direct sunlight until the blooms are flawlessly dry. And, keeping it in a cool dark room is way better.

Flower preservation is swiftly becoming a popular hobby and a profiting business nowadays. Hydrangeas are top of the line in so far as dried flowers for floral arrangements are concerned. Not only are these flowers readily available for drying, they are also easy to prepare and flexible in floral arrangements.

Going With Dried Flower Arrangements

The popular trend today turns to the practical and long term effect of dried flowers and natural products used in arrangements for home and office. What better way to save money over the long term, the versatile use of such arrangements as this one using the amaranthus in green, draped over the edge of a large crystal goblet (which has a preserved sheet moss ball, in the bottom of such). You want the amaranthus falling at different lengths & depths. Keeping with the softness of this arrangement, add a few basil rattail millet stems, poked down in the goblet, along with basil golden button flowers. Top this off with the beautiful green Tilandsia. Let your eyes drink in this refreshing taste of beauty.

Grapevines being an easy, natural substance to work with, are perfect base for doing arrangements. Bend it into the form of heart or bow. At random glue small bunches of pineapple buttons in natural and the safflower in orange. Combining these two flowers at random and grouping them around and into the vine. Complete with an orange gathered-up raffia bow, placed in the middle of the arrangement, leaving the raffia strands at different lengths, with a slight curl to them. Again, still working with the grapevine, double it up and form into an arched swag shape. Attach preserved oak leaves in purple, ting ting flowers in lavender and pink/purple by the stems (that come into the middle from both sides) with wire. In other words, let the blooms remain loose & free on each end. Add the preserved frosted eucalyptus in purple among the above with the purple happy flower attached at random throughout the design. Complete with a natural raffia bow. Now find the perfect spot above a window or door.

Dried Flower Arrangements

Now that I'm on this purple kick, allow me to continue with the combination of the purple stars, ti tree in violet, giving it some height, along with the purple flax grass, lavender and plum ting ting flower. Keep pulling and spreading the flowers apart until you like the look.. The main thing is create a loose and airy look to it. What can we use for a container, you ask? I have the perfect thing, a blueberry pie filling can (empty of course), slightly crushed down, with a hook to hang on the wall. Pour yourself a cup of coffee & cut a piece of that pie and enjoy your new treat.

Since a lot of my waking hours are spent in my studio, I wanted something relaxing & stress free for my favorite room. I decided to use English lavender blooms and white larkspur tied into a bundle, laying them end to end, stretching them out at different lengths, to cover my 36" window sill. I included lavender buds in net containers. Now, most days I can open my window and get a cool refreshing, wonderfully scented air, to keep my day calm and productive.

Questions To Ask Your Wedding Florist

1.  Is my date available?

dried flower arrangements for sale

If it is, check to see if a deposit is necessary to hold the date. Also ask if there is any consultation fee. Inquire as to  whether you can receive a price proposal before deposit its placed.

2.  Do you have actual photographs  or samples of your past work?

It's important to see the work of the actual florist not air brushed photos from a FTD book. There is no better way to see if their style complements your tastes and verify just how skilled they are.

3. Is there a delivery or set-up fee?

Watch out  this can be a substantial extra charge. Most florists will charge a delivery and set-up fee especially if you have either complex flower arrangements or a site that is a long distance from their shop. If the charge is high, consider finding a florist closer to the site or cut back on the complicated decorations.

4. Do you offer any silk or dried flower arrangements?

This may be important to you if  you want to save your bouquet or want an unusual look for a table centerpiece. Sometimes these two options may be less expensive than fresh flowers, especially for some exotics like orchids. A table centerpiece idea: dried rose topiaries double as an elegant keepsake.

5.  How many weddings do you do in a day?

The biggest problem with some florists is that they become over-extended trying to do too many weddings in one day. A florist can probably do two or three events a day if the events are held at different times or the florist has plenty of help. If the florist schedule looks crowded for your wedding date, they may arrive late or deliver the wrong flowers. Be sure to look for someone focused on your wedding not just your checkbook.

6. Are you familiar with my ceremony and reception site locations?

If not, will you visit it with me? It may be a good idea to introduce your florist to  the ceremony or reception site if they have never seen it.  Ask if there is any charge for this on-site visit.

7.  What rental items do you have? How are they priced?

Some things you many want to rent include a candelabrum, aisle standards or urns. The best florists don't over charge on rentals. One way to find out is to compare prices with a local rental store. A common markup for florists is about 10% for their time to coordinate this detail. If you would prefer to rent the items yourself because you can get a better price, be sure you have the time to pick up and return the items.

8.  Can I attend one of your weddings during set-up for a look at your designs?

Here is another way to determine how professional and talented your florist is. You will need to visit during set-up and leave before the wedding party arrives. Try not to interrupt the florists or their staff while they work (save your questions for later.)  Look for timeliness, freshness of the flowers, and how well the florist and staff work together.

9.  What time will you be at my ceremony and reception sites to set up my wedding?

Confirm this time constantly throughout your planning. Many florists set up weddings a couple of hours in advance. If this is the case with your wedding, make sure the temperature at your site will not be too hot for the flowers.

10.  Will you merely drop off my flowers or stay through the ceremony?

The degree of service here differs dramatically from florist to florist. Some just drop off the flowers for the ceremony and leave, while others will stay to pin on corsages, make sure nothing is missing etc. There will be an extra fee of generally -75 for this service; however this could be a worthwhile investment.

11.  What happens if the flowers I pick are  not available for my wedding?

How will you determine what flowers to substitute?

12.  What is the policy if i want to add extra items such as another table centerpiece or boutonniere at the last minute?

The Many Uses of Fresh Flowers

People use flowers for a variety of reasons. Flowers make beautiful decorations and add an inviting scent to a room. They also create a focal point for a drab entranceway or make an attractive centerpiece at a holiday dinner table.

dried flower arrangements for sale

Flowers also have many other uses. Some people use them for cooking while others dry them and use them for potpourri. Some may even use them to make wine!

Dried Flower Arrangements

Flowers can easily be dried for uses such as potpourri. To dry flowers, simply hang them upside down to dry so they do not lose their shape. If you do not hang them upside down, you run the risk of the petals falling off or the flowers wilting into a little ball. This is especially true of roses and carnations.

If you do not have flowers growing in your garden, you can stop by any florist and pick some up. If you want to make an arrangement yourself or dry them, you can usually get them cheaper. Florists tend to charge extra for arranging flowers.

Many larger retailers also offer Fresh Flowers near the registers. Some may also have an entire cooler section used for floral arrangements. Keep in mind that the flowers offered by the larger retailers may not be of the same quality of those offered by your florist. You will save more money but the flowers won't be as fragrant and may not last as long.

If you want to find even more uses for flowers, do a quick search online. You may be surprised at the things people can do with them!

Decorating Your Home With Dried Flower Arrangements

The interiors of a home reflect your personality. The choice of colours and lighting needs to be carefully chosen. Though cosmetic effect is necessary, a house needs to look like a home. It is normal to present a bouquet when you meet someone but dried flowers seems to have longer life and can be included as a house warming present. Petals, grass, flowers, buds and also nuts can be used as decoration. This is certainly an unique way of adding style to your interiors. It must be remembered that when dried flowers are used, the arrangement needs creativity and the illumination on the same should be just right.

Oshibana or the Japanase art of pressed flowers is the oldest form. Dried flowers are of multi purpose value as the same can also be availed for medicinal use. Adorning the house with dried flowers can be traced in the Victorian times. The flowers can be used as a centerpiece. One could also place a bouquet of dried flowers over the shoe rack or the end table. If one has a corner table in the farthermost corner of the house, dried petals of rose or lily along with gleaming marbles or white stones will just bring about more life in the room.

Dried Flower Arrangements

If one is having a party in the balcony or a typical BBQ party then the arrangement of a lotus or mahogany dried petals seems to charm the entrance of the house. Elegant styling of furniture with Victorian hints and upholstery can be nostalgic with a mixture of assorted items in a potpourri. Dried flowers arrangement is all about unleashing creativity. The fragrance emanating from the potpourri is the result of preservation of the aromatic oils which lasts for months. Use a potpourri of maize, birch pine or sponge mushroom has benefits. Mixing the dried flowers is a careful, yet personal choice. The contrast colours of flower arrangement might just pep the walls and the leaves in pressed form can be scattered casually in a basket.

There is a certain forest-woody feeling, when one is able to use the dried flower arrangement near the fireplace. An ethnic urn close by and also a lantern with a candle illumination will add a mystery appeal. For a perfect candlelight dinner at home, purchase a few bright candles in yellow, orange and reds and place an assortment of leaves and pine needles.

Vibrant foliage can be collected with the annual flowers like Dahlia and oregano. Perennial varieties include Daisy and Flax. Again over stocking the place with too many flowers and contrasting colours will be confusing the style element. The need here is minimalism and a touch of creativity. Use it in the corners of a section, the entrance or near the fountain. Flowers at the mantelpiece or near the bookshelf in single stalks seem a good idea.

First, think of what kind of colors are already in the person's home. If they favor a southwestern style, for example, you might want to stick with colors that will go with that theme; perhaps peach, pink, and light brown colored plants and flowers. If they have an Asian-themed room, you might choose red-colored dried flowers in long, tall stalks and accent them with dried bamboo branches. If you're making dried flower arrangements for someone's kitchen, you might want to stick with sunny colors that will simply brighten their cooking area and lend a cheery accent. Dried yellow roses, cornflowers, and dried lavender are especially gorgeous together in vases and wreaths.

Next, choose where to buy your supplies. Local craft stores are excellent resources for a wide variety of flowers, branches, and dried fruit slices. If your local craft store is expensive, look on their Web site or in your weekly newspaper to see if they are running any special sales or promotions to help you save money. Also, look online for purely online vendors. Sometimes they can be less expensive.

Wreaths for the front door make the perfect gift for anyone. Simply choose a dramatic color to highlight in the wreath and make the rest a color that reflects nature; greens and browns are perfect. This way, the accent color you'll be using will really pop and add more character to their home's exterior. Holidays at any time of the year are the perfect time to make a front door wreath. The Fourth of July is an ideal opportunity to adorn a party-hostess's door with a red, white, and blue arrangement. Wintertime means lots of family and friends, so why not give gifts of gorgeous wreaths and dried flower arrangements a couple of weeks before the holiday in vibrant reds and greens?

Dried flowers can be both decorative and functional. The most fragrant are lavender, chamomile, dried citrus or fruit, rose buds and petals, or dried flowers that have been scented with essential oils. These can add a special touch to dried flower arrangements, wreaths, or sachet pouches that you give as gifts. If you're planning to make something for the gift recipient's bedroom, choose relaxing scents like lavender and chamomile. If you're going for a romantic feel, choose roses in either bud or petal form.
Essential oils of jasmine, rose, or myrrh give an air of elegance and sophistication that encourages romance.

No matter what the occasion, dried flowers make the best gift ideas! Surprise someone you love today with a vase, wreath, or sachet pouch filled with these amazingly beautiful creations from nature.

How To Make a Basic Dried Flower Arrangement

If you want a Class A decoration, do you need to have a Class A wallet (i.e., a wallet that's filled to the brim with cash)? Not necessarily.

dried flower arrangements

As far as floral ornaments are concerned, there are more affordable and, consequently, better alternatives than using fresh and exquisite flowers.

Dried Flower Arrangements

One alternative is the use of dried flowers.

Dried flowers don't just come cheaper than their fresh counterparts-they're also more available (they don't have to be in season) and they last longer. What's more is that they are more flexible and easy to handle when you utilize them in floral arrangements.

Actually, the best part about dried flowers is how you can make them epitomes of beauty without a genius's know-how on floral arrangement.

These tips on dried flower arrangement can get you through any floral decorating endeavor:

Your vase or basket of dried flowers will look excellent on a lazy susan. Easily use floral clay to fasten your vase basket onto the lazy susan. Arrange it such that you can turn it to view your arrangement from all sides. First establish the overall structure of the design using line materials and fillers like dried or preserved grasses, lavender, wheat or straw. Dried foliage like maidenhair fern, caspia gyp flax or galax leaves is best for filling the center. Large dried flowers like Hydrangeas and cockscomb should be inserted prior to medium-size flowers like dried roses and straw flowers. Space the flowers evenly. To accent the overall shape, add additional fillers like larkspur or delphinium. Ferns can be used to fill in empty spaces. To add volume and fullness, use dried flax. You can also opt to move a notch higher by using small trees with real branches for the trunk and cone-shaped dry foam for the tree. Line a container with slivers of floral foam, and then add a mixture of plaster of Paris. Insert the trunk such that it rests on the bottom of the pot and, when the plaster is dry, push the cone-shaped foam onto the trunk while covering it with moss. Ornament the tree by hot gluing dried flowers and leaves to the top of the moss. And voila! You have a dried tree!

Large scale and Class A floral arrangements need not be difficult to make and they are not expensive. With just a few stems of dried delphinium, preserved orchids and rose heads, a small piece of floral foam, a pot, moss and, most important, a wisp of creativity-you can come up with a striking dried flower arrangement.
